Larry Hankins, 82, of Redfield, died Sunday, June 21, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born October 25, 1937, in Cleveland County at the family home, son of Ira Edward and Bonnie Jewel Tucker Hankins.

Mr. Hankins was reared in Cleveland County until his family moved to Pine Bluff when he was five. He attended Enunciation Academy in the first and second grade, then Pine Bluff Schools and graduated from PBHS in 1955.

Mr. Hankins, weighing all of 50 pounds at age 11, was the 1948 Arkansas AAU Golden Gloves Boxing champion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, drag racing, traveling and spending time with his large family and friends. Mr. Hankins was recognized for his donation and installation of lights and labor at the White Hall Babe Ruth Field where his younger son, Steven, played ball. The plaque he received stated “You Light Up Our Life.”

He was a Master Electrician/Contractor and opened his own business, B&H Electric, in 1967 and was in business for 27 years. In 1994, a job offer allowed him and his wife to travel all over, living and working in 15 states as well as traveling to Canada, Mexico, Greece, Portugal, Spain and the Azore Islands where they lived for four months. Throughout their marriage, their travels allowed them to visit 41 states.

Along with his parents, Mr. Hankins was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie Ruth Hardin, daughter Catherine (Cathy) Robison and son Steven Hankins.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Billie Jean Culpepper Hankins, whom he married October 24, 1958, in Pine Bluff; sisters Jackie Fitch of Lexa and Rita Cash (Wayne) of Woodlawn, son Bill Hankins (Lisa) of Pine Bluff and daughter Cindy Welch (Bobby) of Redfield. Eight grandchildren Jeremy Vanderpool, Trey Hankins, Mickey Wilson, Kellie Divine, Amanda Quick, Truman Michael Wilson, Brett Welch and Marley Welch and 16 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Coy Camp officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home.

Face masks will be required to be worn for both events.

I will always remember the many “tours” of Albuquerque and surrounding areas that Larry, Jean and I had when they were living there. Larry was the driver and tour guide. We saw a lot of the country there and had a great time. Now Larry is on another tour with the best tour guide ever.
