Obituary

Reverend M.L. Faler, 84, of Pine Bluff, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 9, 2020.

He was born March 29, 1935 in Collins, Mississippi, son of Leo and Susie Kirkland Faler.

Brother Faler received his early education in Lone Star, Mississippi. He earned his Associates degree from Jones Community College, where he attended college on a basketball scholarship. Brother Faler then earned his Bachelor Degree from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, also on a basketball scholarship. He earned his Masters Degree in Theology at New Orleans Theological Seminary.

He served in the ministry throughout Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. Brother Faler began his career at Lone Star Missions in Mississippi. He also served Corinth Baptist Church in McGee, Mississippi, Calvary Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana and Waller Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana. Brother Faler served Watson Chapel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas for 3 years before serving Woolmarket Baptist Church in Biloxi, Mississippi. He returned to Watson Chapel Baptist Church and served there for 15 more years before retiring as a full-time pastor in 2007. He continued to serve the Lord as an interim pastor at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church and Oak Grove Baptist Church. He also served as a supply pastor at several area churches when needed.

Brother Faler was very involved in sports throughout his life. In his younger years, Brother Faler enjoyed playing basketball and tennis. Throughout his life, Brother Faler was an avid Ole Miss and Boston Red Sox fan as well as an avid golfer.

Brother Faler was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life in his later years, affectionately calling him “Pop”.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Boyett Faler, whom he married December 22, 1957 at Woolmarket Baptist Church in Biloxi, Mississippi; daughter, Nikki Ferren (Steve) of Pine Bluff; son, ; Monty Faler (Cindy) of Colorado; sister, Jimmie Keys; brother, Dewitt Faler; five grandchildren, Michael Ferren (Katie), Sara Tankersley (Michael), Matthew Ferren (Sydney), Justin Still and Katie Ferren; three great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Watson Chapel Baptist Church with Brother Todd Howard and Brother Steve Monk officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Watson Chapel Baptist Church.
