Norma Lee Jackson Smith passed away on April 22, 2021 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on October 12, 1926 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Geneva Richardson Jackson and John Allen Jackson. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Clinton Smith; a brother, Robert Allen Jackson; an infant daughter; and son-in-law, John “Jack” Alexander Davis III.
She is survived by her son, Roger Smith of Little Rock; a daughter, Jessica Hill Drake, and her husband Ted Drake, of Pine Bluff and Little Rock; three grandchildren, Austin Franks (Dede) of Little Rock, Jason Davis (Mary Ellen) of Black Mountain, North Carolina, and Alex Davis of Little Rock. She is also survived by three great grandsons, Cameron Franks, Jonathan Franks and Jackson Davis; and one great granddaughter, Margaret Ann Davis.
Norma graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1944. She started her career in the insurance business at Taylor and Company and later worked for E.B. and F.R. Bloom. In 1966, she became an employee of International Paper Company. She was a dedicated and loyal employee. Many lifelong friendships were established with her co-workers.
In 2001, she moved to the Hillcrest neighborhood in Little Rock to be near her children and grandchildren.
At the age of 75, she started a new career in retail sales. She worked at Beechwood House for her dear friend, Lu Smith, and the Shoppes on Woodlawn which was owned by her daughter and Lu. Many customers became her friends and they were disappointed if they stopped by and she wasn’t working.
In 2013, at the age of 87, she retired again due to her health.
Some of Norma’s best years were spent in Hillcrest. She enjoyed being able to walk to the doctor’s office, the bank, restaurants, beauty salon and drug store. All of the essentials of her life were close by. Because of her love for Hillcrest, memorials may be made to the Hillcrest Merchants’ Association, P.O. Box 251522, Little Rock, Arkansas 72225 or a charity of your choice.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, 807 Cherry Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas with Rev. Belinda Price officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will follow the service at the Drake home, 901 West 35th, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
