Obituary for Kay Frances Herrin Hester

Kay Francis Herrin-Hester passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020. She is survived by her brother, Howell Odom Richardson, Jr.; her husband, Robert Hester, Sr.; her children: Howell Herrin, Daniel Herrin, and William and Katherine Herrin; her step-children: Lea and Scott Watson; Robbie & Field Mitchell; Tracey and Steve Anderson; Kim & Ben Waters; and Robert, Jr. and Mimi Hester; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howell Odom Richardson, Sr. and Sarah Richardson; her sister, Elizabeth Culpepper; and her brother William Richardson.

Kay touched the lives of everyone she met. From her quilting buddies to her “adopted” children’s friends. Everyone knew where she stood with them, because she would tell you. She would give you the clothes off her back; but if you wronged her, or she felt like you had done so, you didn’t want to be around her! Most of all, she was a Sister, a Friend, a Wife, a Mother, and a Quilter. Her hats she wore were numerous. One wonders how a person that survived her passing will be able to attempt to fill one of these roles. To contemplate all of them embodied in one person is beyond reckoning.

In the last two years, she had become involved in Quilts of Valor. Working with “her quilting girls”, they were able to award over three hundred seventy-five quilts to military personnel.

A memorial visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on January 18, 2020, at Ralph Robinson & Son, Cherry Street at 8th, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71611. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Quilts of Valor at: Click the "Support QOVF" button under Monetary Donations. It will take you to PayPal. Please note "Never Forgotten with Honor" was the chapter Kay led.
