Obituary

Gordy Edward ‘Ed’ Atkinson, Jr., 88, of Springdale went to be with his Lord Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
He was born March 14, 1931, in Clarendon, a son of the late Gordy Edward Atkinson and Mildred Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Bobbie J. James Atkinson in 1990; wife, Marjorie Hixon Atkinson in 2011; and a daughter, Mary J. Huddleston in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Bob (Kathlyn) Atkinson of White Hall, and Jim (Martha) Atkinson of Springdale; four grandchildren, James R. Atkinson of Omaha, Nebraska, Katherine (C.J.) Pye of White Hall, Michael Atkinson and Scott Atkinson, both of Springdale; and two great-grandchildren, Richard Pye and Raylee Pye.
He served in the United States Navy for four years including a tour of duty in the Korean War on the USS Bellatrix.
Ed retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad in Pine Bluff after 43 years of service and was a member of the Holiday Island Presbyterian Church.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at Robinson and Fuller White Hall Funeral Chapel, and a graveside service is set for Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with Rev. Mark Krause officiating.
Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church at 1800 W. Emma Avenue, Springdale, AR 72762.

Mr. Ed was one of the kindest people I have ever known. Such a wonderful Christian that I had the privilege of growing up in church with him and Mrs. Bobby at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. My prayers are with you all. God bless!
