Daniel Bland Roberts, 73, of Pine Bluff, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after a hard battle with cancer, Saturday, January 30, 2021. He was born August 24, 1947 in Louisiana, Missouri to the late Joseph Bland and Martha Alice Hart Roberts.

Danny moved to Pine Bluff as a child and attended Watson Chapel Schools graduating in 1967. He was arguably one of the best all-sport athletes from the Pine Bluff area. After graduating, he spent 2-3 years playing professional baseball in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers. After coming back to Pine Bluff, Danny went to work for Entergy, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved attending sporting events for his children and his grandchildren. His grandchildren adored their Papa.

Danny attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was very active helping with the Lenten fish fries and the spaghetti suppers.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Carol Ann Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Ruggeri Roberts, whom he married June 9, 1972 in Pine Bluff; one daughter, Michelle Price (Jamey) of White Hall; one son, Michael Roberts (Darlena) of White Hall; five grandchildren, Katelyn Price, Madelyn Price, Joseph Roberts, Ashlyn Price and Joshua Roberts, all of White Hall; one brother, Jerry Roberts of Pine Bluff; and one sister, Jo Alice Hoaglin of Pleasant Hill, Illinois and other close family members and special friends who loved him.

Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Ralph Robinson and Son with Father Joseph Marconi officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM Wednesday until time of service. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, PO Box 7434, Pine Bluff, AR 71611 or the Jefferson County Humane Society, PO Box 2233, Pine Bluff, AR 71613.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Michelle Jeffers and Arkansas Hospice.

The family will receive friends at The Grove Hunting Club, 405 Celia Road.

Having grown up just two doors from the Robert's family, Danny was always kind with the youngster who didn't play sports. I remember him and his father playing "catch" when Danny was perfecting his pitching and the sound of his fastball hitting the catcher's mitt on his father's hand. Unfortunately I also remember when his parents and sister were tragically killed in the auto accident and how it affected him deeply. Now he is with them and maybe his father and him can play "catch" again. My deepest sympathy and prayers to the family in their loss of a fine man.

It breaks my heart to hear of Mr. Danny's passing. I am so sorry for your loss! Mr. Danny was a kind & patient man who didn't take too well to bullies & I was blessed to have met him playing Texas Hold "Em. I was new to the game & several players were angry because I was just learning & throwing their game off. Mr. Danny called them all down, put them to right & worked with me to teach me the game 3 weeks running. He will always hold a spot in my heart for his kindness. May God bless & comfort you all.
