Billie Jean Culpepper Hankins, 80, of Redfield, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021, surrounded by her family.
She was born September 6, 1940, in Sherrill, Arkansas at the family home, daughter of J. D. and Helen Camp Culpepper. Mrs. Hankins was reared in Sherrill until her family moved to Pine Bluff at an early age. She attended Pine Bluff Schools and graduated from PBHS in 1958. On October 24, 1958, she married Larry Hankins.

She enjoyed working and throughout her life she had several different administrative positions including working at the Coffee Cup, White Hall High School, Kell Athletics, for their business B&H Electric, Paschall & Ray CPA, Newton, Owen & Boyd CPA, Jamco Electric and her current position with Moore Outdoors from which she recently retired at the young age of 80.

She enjoyed gardening, bowling, needlepoint and crafts, watching HGTV, going to craft fairs and spending time with her family. One of her favorite things to do with her family was travel. In 1994, her husband was offered a job allowing them to live in 15 states as well as traveling to Mexico, Canada, Greece, Portugal, Spain and the Azores Islands where they lived for four months as well as living in Hawaii on two different occasions. Throughout her life she was able to visit 41 states with her family. She was a member of the Ladies Wednesday Morning Bible Study at White Hall United Methodist Church.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Larry who died June 2020, to whom she was married to for 61 years, her brothers “Little” Larry Culpepper, Bernie Short, and Jay D. “Junior” Culpepper, daughter Catherine (Cathy) Robison, and son Steven Hankins.

Survivors include a sister Marquitta Magnini, son Bill Hankins (Lisa) of Hardin and daughter Cindy Welch (Bobby) of Redfield. Eight grandchildren Jeremy Vanderpool, Trey Hankins, Mickey Wilson, Kellie Divine, Amanda Quick, Truman Michael Wilson, Brett Welch and Marley Welch and 16 great grandchildren, her best friend Martha Jo Berry, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital online at or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at

Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 P.M. and services will be at 10 A.M. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Ralph Robinson & Sons. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
